What Photographers do when they’re not on a Brand Shoot with a client?

Posted on February 24, 2023 by Admin under Brand Photography, Food Photography, Rydal Photography

As well as doing all the day-to-day tasks of running a business that can take up to 80% of our week, I like to practice and perfect my craft and, on this occasion, I created a still art piece of work using dessert and teaspoons. Each was filled with a different spice: Paprika, Turmeric, Rosemary, Basil, Oregano, Minced Garlic, Crushed Chilli, and Sesame Seed. In between the spoons were fresh ingredients: Ginger, Chilli, Lemon Grass, Garlic Cloves, Thyme, Parsley, and Basil. All were placed on a dark grey marble effect background and I used natural light to light the subject. I then entered this photo into an online photographic competition called GuruShots.

GuruShots is an online platform for all photographers at all levels to enter their photos into various competitions and there are over 50 different challenges each month. When you join GuruShots there are 9 levels of expertise, they are Newbie, Rookie, Challenger, Advanced Veteran, Expert, Champion, Master, and Guru. I am currently at the Champion level. Each time you enter a competition you gain votes from other people that have entered the competition and you are also able to vote on other people’s work as well. The Challenge I entered was called Creative Still Life, for this particular challenge there were over 120,000 entries, and I received the award of Guru’s Top Pick Winner, my work was published in a digital magazine/exhibition that covered America and Asia. I was very proud to receive this award for my work and I’m always looking for the next project to create and shoot.

Below created by myself for a clients kitchen is another example of Creative Still Life, five peppers on a piece of grey slate. I had this image processed by Rydal Photography’s professional printers Loxley Colour and is nestled between an acrylic face-mount and a slim aluminium panel with a black core.
